Charge Nurse

Summary of Responsibilities

The Charge Nurse will be responsible for the daily clinical staffing and the efficient flow of patients through the Endoscopy experience. They will assist in recruiting, hiring and evaluating all clinical personnel. As Charge Nurse, They will participate in the center’s quality committees (CQI, Infection Control, Risk Management and Safety Committees, or any other Committees that the Center forms). They will be responsible for ensuring that all centers policies and procedures are available to physicians and staff.

Qualifications

  • Current State License
  • Previous managerial/charge experience of 3-5 years, preferably in an Ambulatory setting
  • Previous GI experience in an admitting, procedure or recovery role in an ambulatory setting, with current SGNA Membership. Prefer CGRN (if not CGRN, willing to take exam within the first year of employment)
  • Familiar with state, Medicare and accreditation requirements (AAAHC preferred)
  • ACLS Certified – if BCLS certified, willing to become ACLS within six months of employment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Above average computer skills needed, with experience in all aspects of MS Office Suite
  • Successfully pass pre-employment physical requirements with additional testing to meet state and OSHA guidelines, in order to be deemed capable of working in a demanding environment

    Responsibilities

    Essential Functions

    Clinical Role

    • Determines and schedules appropriate staffing assignments to support the flow of patients through the procedure area
    • Acts as the onsite expert in clinical skills, being a resource for other staff members and performing one on one teaching, as needed
    • Monitors the daily flow of patients, making recommendations for efficiency or customer service
    • Conducts staff meetings in conjunction with the Director of Nursing. Plans in-services for the clinical staff that expand their knowledge of GI procedures and the equipment used during these procedures
    • Assures compliance to all clinical policies and procedures

    Management Role

    • Assesses the clinical staffing needs of the Center and discusses with the Director of Nursing
    • Participates in interviewing candidates
    • Completes initial and annual competency worksheets
    • Works with the Director of Nursing to resolve any employee issues or problems that may develop
    • Keeps detailed notes regarding performance issues and follows established guidelines in dealing with performance problems
    • Responsible for ongoing evaluations of clinical performance and interaction with Physicians and peers
    • Contributes to yearly performance reviews, providing input to Director of Nursing.
    • Participates in all CQI Studies within the Center, providing information to be used on benchmarking programs

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Functions as a staff nurse, taking on the role of admitting nurse, procedural nurse, or recovery room nurse
    • Directs the ordering and inventorying of all GI supplies, medical supplies and medications
    • Updating all manuals in the Center which are necessary for certification and accreditation
    • Conducts chart reviews to check for completeness, and enforces the need for consistency in documentation.
    • Performs other duties, as directed

      Job Relationships

      • Reports directly to the Director of Nursing and works cooperatively to facilitate the seamless efficient functioning of the Center
      • Works cooperatively with Endoscopy Center co-workers and the staff of Physicians utilizing the Endoscopy Center, the staff of Physicians Endoscopy, outside providers, and vendors servicing the Center
      • Provides direct supervision to the clinical staff of the Center, setting the example for other nursing personnel through his/her positive and caring attitude
      • resents a friendly, courteous, and helpful manner in all interactions with patients and other offices

      Physical Activities and Requirements

      • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job including working extended hours, constantly standing, bending, and stretching with frequent trips to all areas of the Center
      • Frequently able to lift, and carry supplies and equipment as needed, up to 35-50 pounds
      • Must be able to manipulate minute objects, such as diminutive tissue samples
      • Possess manual dexterity to operate equipment, hearing acuity to communicate in low volume areas, and visual acuity at 20/40 corrected are important to the performance of the job tasks
      • Constantly communicates clearly and distinctly with other staff members, patients, and their families/escorts, physicians, vendors and other third parties

      Starting Pay Range is $47-$55/hour.
